We always encourage our students to practice their English skills as much as possible. It’s not always easy to find these opportunities outside the classroom. Our successful Volunteer Program gives you the best chance to maximize your learning experience and perfect your English language in a real-life, professional environment.
The main focus is on helping you improve your language skills. This is not a job training program and all volunteer positions are unpaid.
All participants are required to attend at least 4 weeks of English classes before starting the volunteer program. In addition, you should be able to volunteer for at least 8 - 12 weeks, depending on the volunteer place.
Sample Class Schedule *
One of our experienced instructors will be assigned to become your personal private teacher, to support you from the time of your application, to the selection of your volunteer placement, your interviews, until the successful completion, at least once a week.
- Preparation: resume creation, interview practice, job preparation.
- Personal Support: weekly one-on-one meetings with your private teacher
- Final Presentation: in front of students and staff to report on the volunteer experience.
* schedule varies based on volunteer place
I began attending Brandon College while I was still at University in Bangkok. I was studying to be a registered nurse but wanted to be able to communicate with foreign patients as well as Thai patients. The fist thing I found appealing about Brandon was the fact they started a new class every Monday. This meant that I did not need to adjust my University schedule to learn English (in Thailand English is mostly taught in Thai by non-English speaking Thai teachers who can teach grammar but not communication). So in addition to being able to study during vacations I had several occasions where I had a week off at University and I would leave Bangkok on Saturday, study at Brandon for a week, go to SFO and fly back to Bangkok arriving Sunday afternoon in time for Monday morning classes. This was very tiring but helped me improve quickly.
The next point that was very good was the class size and attention all the students received. Compared to the classes at the massive schools the classes at Brandon were never more than ten students and frequently around five. This meant more time for each student and a more comfortable learning process. The administration at Brandon, especially Res, Gerry and Howard, were all very accommodating and went out of their way to help me achieve my goals.
I enjoyed and respected all my teachers because of their teaching skill and their personalities and the interest they showed in me as a student. I was also able to obtain two volunteer positions through Brandon which helped me acclimate to the American way of work. I am waiting to take my nursing exam in America so I can be a nurse here. I passed all the requirements in Thailand and I am a Registered Nurse there, and I look forward to taking the exam here and I know that with all Brandon has offered me, I will succeed.
I miss everyone at Brandon College! Fern, Thailand
